Backflow prevention devices such as Reduced Pressure Zone Devices (RPZD) and Double Check Valves (DCV) are apparatus which prevent the reverse flow of water back into the city drinking water. These devices are installed in specific risk areas where a hazard has been identified such as a grease arrestor where there is potential for this contaminant to be transferred back to the drinking water. Certain Backflow prevention devices are testable and require the on-going yearly testing to ensure the device is in good working order to reduce the risk of contamination. This type of audit testing is required to be carried out by a licenced plumber with the specific and current “backflow prevention” endorsement on their licence and a copy of the completed form is to be sent to the council to ensure compliance with the state legislation.
